Vettu cake - tea time snack

Tea time is also after-school time these days though i prefer not to make deep fried snack all the time , it happens to be one of the most easy to feed things with kids. This snack is popular in our home town or rather the south of Tamil nadu and kerala too.It maybe known by other names in different regions.I just came to know it is called "mutta-koss"(means cabbage due to its appearance) from my neighbour who is from Tirunelveli. It is called vettu(cut) cake because of the cuts made on the top of the cake i guess.

DId i tell you guys i have a good bunch of neighbours and I'm just loving it here.We have a mix of cultures and truck loads to chit chat daily. The kids and their mommies are eager to meet daily in the evenings.I'm thoroughly delighted to be part of community living again and happy to provide such a good growing environment for my children at this time of their childhood when they utmost need it.

About this recipe, its a fast moving tea time snack in most road side hotels and snack shops where they serve it at tea time.Just deep fried flour mixture but truly tastes good.My hubby asked for it during our last vacation to revisit his college day snack but it wasn't the same from a hotel we got. This version i made at home was very much similar to what he and I had tasted years ago. These cakes are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. These are usually larger in size and one can't finish one at a go!
