Pizza rolls

I've been wanting to  make pizza for ages ofcourse from scratch. But somehow things never work out.Either i have no veggies for toppings or no cheese. So this time i just decided i should go and make something with a pizza base.I made the pizza sauce the day before. Also the idea was to make pizza pinwheels but what happened was not very nice to look at but tasted really yummy and my kids loved it.

The pizza base had risen beautifully and i was all excited to make the rolls. This base would have made a beautiful pizza if i had tried it.Once i spread the sauce on the dough it was so soft that i couldn't manage to cut out proper pinwheels which is why i said what turned out looked more like rolls and less like pinwheels so they were good for breakfast the next day.I didn't use pizza cheese just regular cheese cubes.

Preparation time 20 minutes + rising time(extra 1-2 hours) + second rise (20-30 mins) + baking time 30-40 mins)
Makes 10-12 rolls (depending on the size you make them.)
Recipe source : here

You need

Maida/all purpose flour 3 and half cups
Instant yeast 2 and 1/4 tsp
Warm Water 1 and 1/2 cup water (adjust less or more)
Salt 3/4 tsp
Granulated Sugar  1 tablespoon
Olive oil 2 tablespoons

Pizza sauce 2-3 tablespoons
Cheese cubes 2 / pizza cheese grated as required
Pizza seasoning optional as needed

  • In a bowl , add yeast, flour, sugar and salt mix it roughly with a wooden spoon.
  • Pour the water and mix into a soft smooth dough.Take this dough onto a counter top, dust flour and knead the dough adding oil for 10 minutes.(use a kitchen machine or hand blender if you have.)
  • Grease a vessel and turn the dough in this oiled vessel once so it is greased too and cover and allow to rise until double.
  • This should take about 1-1.5 hours.Once this is done, punch it down and roll into a thin rectangle using a rolling pin,This part was difficult because the dough was slightly sticky.
  • Spread sauce, and top with any vegetables if you want.Sprinkle cheese chunks, pizza seasoning and some fresh herbs as required.start rolling the rectangle from the shorter side

  • Line a baking tray with aluminium foil, grease the foil paper and set aside.
  • Dip the knife in some flour and cut 1 inch rolls.Place on a greased tray and cover with dry towel for 15-20 minutes.Brush with milk or butter before baking.
  • Preheat the oven at 180C, bake the rolls at 160-170C for about 25-35 minutes until the tops are bouncy and slightly brown.

These rolls are totally soft and spongy and make an amazing snack or breakfast.

Tips :

- i have used instant yeast it does not need activation.
- you can use just regular tomato ketchup instead of making the pizza sauce from scratch or buy store jars of sauce too.
- i used cheese cubes you can use pizza cheese.
